When we first conceived of Del Mar, our aim was to create a superior, matte-glaze tile with a natural appearance. We completed the design, formulated the glazes and when we were done, Del Mar was everything that we hoped it would be -- a beautiful, handmade look over quality construction.
Shade variation is a key design element that we built into the Del Mar line. Tiles that vary in color across a field create a natural look that is uniquely rich. This is similar to a high quality granite floor in which the variation of color and grain conveys the character of the stone.
GLAZE
Del Mar is comprised of mostly matte glazes that have a true crystal formation within the glass. When a glaze has a true crystalline composition, it provides superior hardness and greater serviceability.
APPLICATION
Del Mar Ceramic is perfect for counter tops, back splashes, walls and light-duty floors, such as bathrooms or shower stalls. The unvitrified clay body is the only reason that we cannot unconditionally recommend Del Mar for use on any floor. High heels exert so much pressure on a tiny area that the tile may crack. Del Mar is not recommended for outside use.
TRIM
The trim pieces consist of a bullnose, a double bullnose and a bar liner. There is a chair rail, which when turned upside down works well as cove base molding, and a quarter round, which can be used in lieu of V-Cap.
MOSAIC
As part of the Del Mar series, we offer 1x1 and 2x2 mosaic tile. Each of these comes in a 4 π „ x 4 π „ format with deeply carved divisions designed to be filled with grout. Our mosaic can also be cut into various accent shapes such as single row, double row or into individual tiles. Because their incised divisions are sufficiently deep, these tiles will never show a rough edge when cut and used in their smaller format. Both the 1x1 and 2x2 look fantastic as field tile or as accents.
INSTALLATION
We strongly recommend two things for a successful installation. Use only 100% latex additive with thin-set mortar, and take all tile from its boxes and shuffle prior to installation; this guarantees that you will achieve random variation of shade. Handmade look, variation of color: these are the natural beauty of Del Mar.
